Great Places 2020 is a visionary community development project, initiated by LISC Indianapolis, to transform six strategic places in Marion County neighborhoods into dynamic centers of culture, commerce and community, preparing Indianapolis for unprecedented success as it reaches its Bicentennial.
The goal of Great Places 2020 is to transform neighborhoods and spur urban revitalization to help combat many of Indianapolis’ current challenges, including population loss to neighboring counties, high unemployment and poverty rates in certain areas, low graduation rates, and high levels of pollution and obesity.
Building communities that are walkable, attractive and culturally diverse will help attract and retain residents of all ages and socioeconomic status, increasing the tax base and reversing many of the negative trends.
East Washington Street and Oxford Street was selected as one of the first Great Places.
